Love Calculator

Our Love Calculator generates a compatibility rating between 0 % and 100 % using the two names you enter. A larger percentage suggests a stronger romantic connection.

Note: As with any online love‑meter, this tool is purely for fun and shouldn't be taken as a genuine measure of affection. Trust your own feelings rather than the calculator's outcome.

Definitions of Love

Love carries many interpretations depending on the setting. Broadly, it describes a deep affection toward another—whether maternal, romantic, or admiring—and can even extend to objects, ideas, or food. Cultural and national variations make a single universal definition elusive.

Sometimes love is classified as impersonal, referring to devotion toward an object, principle, or goal one holds dear. Examples include a reverence for “life itself,” affection for a cherished plush toy, or passion for a cause or ideology.

Interpersonal love pertains to bonds between people, encompassing family ties, friendships, and romantic relationships. Throughout history, scholars have debated its foundations, proposing biological, psychological, and evolutionary explanations.

Regardless of what any psychologist or "expert" says, how a person views or defines love is up to them, and the results of any online calculator or predictor of love should have little to no bearing on whether or not a person chooses to pursue it.

Approaching Love

Generally, we gravitate toward individuals who resemble us—people of similar socioeconomic background, taste in clothing, music, or environment. Yet, we can also feel drawn to complete opposites, seeking novelty and excitement.

Some argue we prefer partners like ourselves to create stable unions and raise similar offspring. For instance, famous actresses often pair with rock stars, who share comparable fame and wealth.

The allure of the unknown also plays a role. Others suggest we fall for mysterious, challenging partners because they introduce genetic diversity, potentially benefiting future children—though scientific evidence for this claim is lacking.

Physical appearance matters to both genders, often slightly more to men. Research by Louann Brizendine, professor of psychiatry at UCSF and author of "The Female Brain," indicates that while men primarily process a woman's visual image, women assess a man's looks alongside an evaluation of his character.

Love does take over most of your brain activity, Brizendine says, and once it has you hooked, it doesn't let you go. It keeps your chemicals hopping, which is why you can't seem to get the other person out of your head.

Even researchers concede that a solid, definitive reason for why someone is drawn to a particular person remains elusive. It's unlikely that a definitive "science of love" will ever emerge, nor that we can devise a formula to predict its outcomes. Ultimately, trust your intuition and emotions to guide you.
